A Flora of Kingston evokes the forgotten history of the Botanical Society of Canada. Founded in Kingston, Ontario, in 1860, the Botanical Society of Canada maintained active correspondence with some of the nineteenth century’s leading botanists, and created one of Canada’s first botanical gardens. Meeting regularly on the campus of Queen's College (now Queen's University), the Botanical Society of Canada admitted men and women as equal members. However, the Society was short-lived. Through an interdisciplinary project incorporating photography and archival material, my work revives the Society’s ambitious spirit.
